Dull, a white Ohio native born on Jan, 23, > 1905 » commenced his crimi-
nal career in 1921 when he stole his first automobile, He became a
petty thief and a small-time hold-up artist and amassed a record as
an escape artist. On Nov. 20, 192 9, he and his 2h<year-old partner,
Kenneth Brown, attempted to hold up the Fostoria, “hio, service sta-~
tion operated by Ray Tish. The two gunmen did not frighten Tish and
drew his own revolver and wounded Brown before being shot down by
Dull. Dull dropped his injured friend off at a doctor's office where
Brown was captured and confessed implicating Dull, Dull was cap-
tured on Nov, 2) after the police received a tip fran his girl
friend who informed them that he was on a freight train bound for
Rushville, Ind. He confessed that he had shot Tish but claimed
self-defense, Brown turned State's evidence at the trial and re-
