"Farmville, VA, 11-18-1907=In the Circuit Court of Prince
Edward County, Otis,.Taylor, colored, was tried for the
murder of Cecg@lia Banks, also colored, and the. jury
brought in the first degree verdict, The prisoner was
immediately sentenced by Judge George J. Hundley to be
hanged on Friday, Jane 3, 1908. Otis Taylor on the
night of 1-25-1907, shot and mortally wounded Cecélia
Banks, The shooting occured near Sanco Post Office, )
miles distant from Farmville, The evidence showed that
the killing was without provocation and coldéblooded.
After the shooting Taylor made his escape to North Caro=
lina, and was not heard of until several weeks ago when
he was located in Ashville, his whereabouts being learned
by the postmark on a letter he ventured to write to a
