Hanged, Charleston, W. Va., 9-17-1858. "",.,the discover of the body
of Mrs. Mary S, Turley in Coal River, Kanawha Co,, Vasey with a heavy
stone attached thereto by a rope. An inquest was subsequently held
and a verdict rendered that she wasmurdered by her husband, P, S,
Turley, who had been arrested immediately after body found, The
following from Kanawha REPUBLICANs He mad made no attempt to escape,
satisfied that he had placed the body in too secure a place to be
found, Indeed, he put out an advertisement offering $50 re#iard for
anyone who might find wife, dead or alive, She was highly esteemed
and was from excellent family from Putnam Co, named West. From time
shewas missing, excitement prevailed, Suspicion had attached on him
from beginning, He had for several years been pastor in Baptist
Church and enjoyed confidence of acquaintences, but two years ago
left pulpit, acquired a grocery and began selling and drinking whis-
key, gambling and going with bad women, After arrested, admitted
putting body of wife in river but said she had suicided by hanging
herself and he had found her in her room on hight of disappearance,
