Details: Mason was a native of Perrysville Penn.

He was condemned by a drumhead Court Mar-
tial in the camp of General Evans (CSA) which was then
located in the northern tier of present day Culpeper Co.
The force under Evans was at this time one wing of a
pincer movement advancing on Manassas. Mason misrepres—
ented himself as a messenger from General Jackson (CSA),
the other pincer commander, and tried to inveigle Evans
