"In Guilford Co., Jesse Upton, twice convicted of the
murder of his wife, was sentenced to hang on 11-7~1828,"
HILIS BOROUGH RuCORDER, Hillsborough, N. Coy 10-29-1828
"Greensborough, N. Cs, Nove 8, 1826-Pursuant to the sen-
tence of the court, Jesse Upton from Randolph County, for
the murder of his wife, was executed yesterday, He made
no particular confession of his guilt. The concourse of
people was unusually large and he admonished them to take
warning of his fate. We are sorry to state that Nathan-
lel Small, of this county, on his way to the place of

excution}, was thrown from his horse and died a short
time afterwards,"
