the father of a small child, became infatuated with an attractive
widow who owned a boarding house and rented a room from her. This

_ led to a double life on his part, as he would XX#K stay at home for

traveling, he was able to justify his absences and his only problem
was the money wherewith to lead two lives, On one occasion, he
forged a check for $100 on his attractive widowed mother, 37-year-old
Mrs. Harriet Arnold which she made good, On March 18, 190, he went
to her home and attempted to borrow more money which she refused to

- lend him. He then stabbed her repeatedly with an ice=pick and stran-
gled her with the cord from an electric toaster, :
