of Amanda Re Spence for whom he held a grudge; she was
a colored woman who ran an eating saloons; he killed her
in the yard of her home on Oct. 5, 18713; convicted Nov.
h, 18713 sentenced Jan. 31, 1872; warrant issued, Sept.
13, 1872; regarding the execution: "a thud and a con-

vulsed form swung half found in the sunlight; the sheriff
(Davis Gill) saw the frame quiver, the arms twitching,
the legs jerking, and the doctors felt the touchose";
