of J, Attaway Brown, 60-year-old white merchant, in his
store located on Orangeburg=-Calhoun County Line, Brown,
unmarried lived alone and store in one room of house,
Adams had lived in New York for three years, returning to
South Carolina on 1-1-1923 and lived near RPrown's store,

on 2-16-1923, Confessed, implicating 18-year-old Abraham
Murphy, also black farm laborer, Said they went to store
at two in afternoon and Murph,got Brown's attention by
