Johnson s Mesa , Colfax Co., Ne Me, and he received a commission as
a Special Deputy to go there and arrestxthe fugitve, . Arguellofs bro-
therswrote to him and warned him that Garcia was looking for him and
woodd kill him. On Oct, 19, 1905, Garfia stopped at the Floyd Rahch
on business, As he did not expect to see Arguello, he was unarmed y
but that happened to be the ranch where Arguello was working under
the, name Will Sainz. When’ Arguello saw him, he warned Garcia to
leave him alone or he would kill him. Garcia ate lunch in a separate
building to stay away from his qaarry but Arguello saw him leave and
met himoutside. Without warning he drew a pistol and started shoot-
ing, inflicting fatal wounds, Before he died, Garbia made a statemen
in which he said that he had not come to the ranch to arrest Apgnello
that day. Arguello was tried and convicted in New Mexico for the
murder of Garcia and sentenced to die. Prior to his execution he mad
a stagement in which he claimed that he had paid another man $50,00
to kill Mrs, Dassart and that he had watched the murder, He said
that the other man had since died and most people believed that Ar-
feos had made that story upe He was hanged at Raton on May 25,

working, church-going citizen, In June, 1903, a family named Dassart
moved to Bowen and Arguello became infatuated with Mrs. Celia Dassart
& young woman in her late teens, On several occasions, she repulsed
his advances and finally she went to Mrs, Arguello and told her, On
July 235 Arguello went to the Dassart Home and again made advances to
Mrs. Dassart, After she had repulsed him, she went to his house and
reported the incident to Mrs, Arguello, S he was Still tebre when
Arguello returned home and witnessed a quarrel between the Arguellos
in the course of which Mrs, Arguello struck him over the head with a
bowl. Mrs, Dassa rt returned to her house and Shortly afterwards
