According to Minutes of Dutchess County Board of Super=
visors enyry June 3, 1778, County Archives, Poughkeepsie,
NY, Sheriff €ompensated for hanging Negro Jack and two
whites; An entry of June 7, 1785, allows 25 pounds
compensation to Mr. George Janeway for his negro slave
executed in 1777 for attempted rape.

Note: This may be the unconfimed slave Jack under sen-

tence of death in 1777 for attempted rape of Catherine
