Wright was losing his nerve. The gang then returned to Pennsylvania
and on Dec. 2h, 1925, they robbed a payroll convoy on. the. way to..the
mine at Mollenauer, Pa., and Yawarski killed pa ymaster Isaiah Gump.
His most ambitious and successful caper was on March 11, 1927, when
he and his gang BIH dynamited BAKX a Brinks armored car carrying
a $108,000 payroll to the Coverdale Mine. Miraculously, no one was
killed by the blast and the gang got away with the money though one
man recognized Jawarski and he was taken into custody on a farm where
he was hilding. Convicted of killing Isaiah Gump, he was sentenced to
die but escaped from the Alleghney County Jail before he was trans-
ferred to prison. On September 13, 1928, police in Cleveland, Ohio,
received a tip that Jawarski could be found in a restaurant and
surrounded the place. Ina fierce gunbattle, he shot and killed
Police Yergeant George Parstad. Jawarski was shot through the head
but survived though he carried the bullet in his brain until his
death. Heturned to Pennsylvania where he had already been sentenced
to die, he was electrocuted at Rockview Penitentiary on Jan. 21,
1929
