a deathly white and his knees buckled, making it necessary for him
to be held erect until the weight was released that jerked him upwards,

that he had left his native country and moved to the United States
because he had killed a man, He worked fn several places of business
as a tailor but he was also a professional burglar who had served at
least one prison sentence for that crime, Early on the morning of
March 15, 1887, he and Charles "Butch" Miller, crossed the ferry from
Manhattan to Brooklyn, Ne Y., and Miller stood guard outside while
Greenwall forced entry into the home of Lyman S, Weeks, a respected
hatter, who lived 1071 DeKalb Avenue, Mrs, Weeks was awakendd by the
noise and her husband went downstairb to investigate, Greenwall, sur-
prised in the dining room, shot and killed Weeks just as he entered
the room, He then stepped over the dying man's body and fled through
the front yard, He and Miller returned to Manhattan and there were
no clues to the murder, Three weeks later, Greenwall, Miller and two
other burglars were arrested in New Jersey and the other two men told
