HOLONG, Nels Olson
Holong, a 30-year-old native of Norway, was employed as a laborer
on the St. Olaf Township, Otter Tail Co., Minn., farm owned by Mrs,
‘A, W. Field who had two sons and a 15-year-old daughter. Holong.
fell in love with the daughter but she did nothing to encourage his
interest. On the morning.of May 26, 1887, Mrs. Feld and her oldest
son went in to Fergus Falls and left the girl and:the other:son on
the farm with Holong. Holong sent the boy to a neighbor's home on
some pretext and then attempted to be intimate with the girl, When
she refused to reciptrocate and struck him with a rolling pin), he
hit her across the back of the neck and the blow killed her; He
then took her body outside and, using a butcher knife as a tool,
mitilated ih before throwing it into a hog pen. When Mrs, Field
and the oldest son returned home, they were joined wickk by the
younger son and they decided that the girl had gone to some neigh=
eke house to spend the night. The next morning, they discovered
