FLEMING, Barney
Fleming, a 29-year-old black junk man, lived at 1617 Lane Street,
Seattle, Washe, with his housekeeper, 30-year-old Mrs, LaBelle Butler,
On October 15, 1935, she was found dead in her room with her throat
cut so deeply by a razor that she was almost decapitated, Fleming,
who was, asleep in the next room was arrested and claimed that a
man wearing a black mask and black gloves had come into the house and
forced him to drink some moonshine whiskey which had knocked him out
and he had no remembrance of Mrs, Butler's death, The next day, he
confessed that he had killed her to "put her out of her misery" after
he had put some rat poison in her beer and kthocked her unconscious
with a stove shaker, His motive was that they had been drinking and
got into an argument. His conviction and the sentence 68 death were
not appealed and he was hanged at the ‘ashington State Prison on April
3, 1936.
