Everett, a 22-year-old white man, had been in trouble with the law
practically continuously after being sent to a boy's school when he
was ll-years-old for the theft of a bicycle. He did serve one year
in the U. S, Air tree before receiving an undesirable discharge,
After his release, he served a year at a Federal Correctional Insti-
tute BSXS for car theft before being released on parole. On Jan. 18,
1955, he was in Panama City, Fla., and went to the home of 21-year-old
Mrs, Lou Ellen Jones, the wife of an airman. He entered the house
and raped Mrs, Jones before BEABEXRGXER han NALRBEXRES firs stab-
bing BKAXEKEK with a kitchen knife and ae perenne her to death
with a cord from an electrical appliance. Mrs. Jones* infant son
was in the room at the time of the assault and murder. The body was
found that night by Mr. Jones when he returned from work, Everett
was eaptured a few days later at the Rothan, Ala., home of the man
into whese custody he had been paroled from. the Correctional Insti-
tute and returned to Panama City where he was convicted and sentenced

to die. Prier to his electrocution on June o 1958, he willed his
eyes to a blind eae
