"Chicago, Ill., 5/28/1897-William T. Powers and “ohn
Lattimore, colored, were hanged in the county jail at
midnight last night. Powers was executed for the mur-
der of John J, Murphy, a saloon-keeper by whom Powers
was employed as a porter, on the night of 12/29/1896,
John Lattimore and “enry Rucker were convicted of the
murder of Louis Marvée on the tow=path of the drain-

age canal 11/29/1896, Rucker confessed and was given
a twenty~five-year- sentence, '!
