Brown, a 2h-year-old Ohio Negro was one of a gang that
conspired at a Pickaway Co., Ohio, night spot to rob 7h
year-old retired blacksmith and truck farmer John Kidney.
On the night of Dec. 9, 1931, Brown, Henry Laudermilk,
Lacey Adams, Arthur Little, and John Hairston went to
the Kidney home and Brown bludgeoned the old man to death
with a brakeman's club, They entered the house and clubbe
his 64-year-old invalid sister, Sarah Kidney, into un-
consciousness, placed both body under stme blankets and
poured chloroform over thems Though they exepcted a large
sum of money, they only found $16.00, most of which was
in old bills that were out of circulation, Hairston was
caught first when he passed some of the bills at a
dice game at the night spot where the crime was
