‘August 25, 1916. "On June 21, 1916, Officer J, Harvey Lev-
erett was serving a warrant for the arrest of a negro by
the name of Clifford Mickens at 17 10th ave,, ‘NE. The
negro resisted arrest and shot and killed Officer Leverette
age 22. This time there was considerable indignation felt
and expressed by the citizens of the City, but there was
no demonstration, The competent police soon had their man
and a speedy trial held, Sentenced to be electrocuted on
August 25, Mickens accepted his fate calmly," Information
