"SLLIOTT, Edward, and Charles “astman of the lht
Connecticut Regiment, on the 18th were shot at
the headquarters of the 3d Division of the Army
of the Potomac for desertion; Elliott was 21 and
a native of Boston; Hastman was 23 and was from
Cornish, Maine. : Hastman was baptized on the
spot where he met -his fate, Elliott sat on a
coffin and fell beck in it when shot. The
firing squad missed Haston and he svrang up.
The Provost Marshall took revolver and shot him
through the head and then fired another through
