today. Religious services were held in his cell just
prior to execution, Condemned man said to the minister
that he was willing and ready to die. Jt the scaffold, in
reply to sheriff's interrogration, 'Have you any remarks
to make,' he replied: 'I have not.' 13 minutes after the
drop fell, Finchum waspronounced dead, The body was bur-
ied in potter's field, the family being too poor to take
charge of it. The crime was the brutal murder of his

own brother, Preston Finchum, He had prearranged a meet-
ing in the woods with his brother, and sent him to the dis-
tillery for brandy for the purpose of making him drunk, ance
also to nervehimself for the horrible deed. When Preston
had got so drunk as to be partially oblivious of what was
going on, Wm. stepped behind him and shot him in the heads
