"Greenfield, Mass., Jan, 7, 1898-John O'Neill, Jr., was
hanged in the Franklin County Jail today for the marder
of Mrs, Hattie McCloud in Buckland on January 8, labt
yeare O'Neill protested his innocence to the last. Mrs,
McCloud was found dead onthe highway on which she had
been walking from the village to her father's house where
she resided, There were indications that she had been
strangled to death. Mr. O'Neill, who was 26 years of age
of bad repute, was arrested for the crime. He had in his
