LITTERAL, James E,

"Columbus, Ohio, June 20, 1930-James E. Litteral, l3~year-
old coal miner, was put to death in the electric chair at
Ohio Penitentiary tonight for the murder of Harry Green at
Nelsonville in 1929, He entered the death chamber at 9:05
and was pronounced dead at 9:10, Litteral's last hope to |
escape execution faded today when Gov. Myers Y,. Cooper re«
fused to interfere. Mrs, Nancy Davis, Nelsonville, the
condemned man's sister, had claimed insanity in asking the
commutation. Mrs. Davis and a sister of Litteral's wife,
who is in Baker, Ore., were his only visitors during the
day. Litteral was arrested several months ago at his Ore-
gon home and brought to Athens County for trial, Green
was slain in October, 1919, in an abandoned mine shaft

near Nelsonville and was robbed of several hundred dollars
