“WJuly 15, 1891-Robert Williams, colored, ws hanged at Pine
/Bluff, Ark., this morning, At an aaery hour Williams rose
and began praying and singing. Shortly after 11 o'clock he
was taken to the scaffold, The drop fell at 11:30, break-
ing his neck, He was cut down in twelve minutes. Williams
killed a negro preacher named Alfred Hayes last November,
le made no lessthan three confessions, all materially diff-
erent, The statement genrally credited is that Hayes
assaulted Williams' wife, for which offense the latter
assassinated him," NEWS, Galveston, Texey 7-16-1891 (2-2)
