AMERICA and DANIEL -

America and Daniel were black slaves who were owned by a resident of
Orange County, Ne C. A farmer named John Lockart who lived in the
northeastern section of the County hired them to work for him and

on *ebruary 17, 1863, they killed Lockart, They were arrested along
with one of Lockart's own Slaves, Solomon, who was charged with being
an accessory before the fact, All three were convicted and senten-
ced to die, but Solomen was given a new trial and escaped the

gallows, America and Daniel were hanged at Hillsborough on April.
