PREBLE, James 3/31/1865

Preble, 22, a N. Y. brakeman, joined army at
Buffalo 9-8-1863, On 3-16-1065, the calvryman
assaulted Mrs. Rebecca Drake & Miss Louise Be-
dard, and attempted to rape both at the home of
Oliver Bedard near Kinston, NC. Later he ‘did
by physical force and violence commit rape upon
the person of one Miss Letitia Craft' at Bedard
home. Convicted at general court martial, he
was shot on March 31, 1865, at Goldsboro, NC.
