a motorist, steal his automobile and hide it out untillater when
they would use it for joy-riding. On the afternoon of Jan. 13, 19)7
they caught a ride with two men but determined that their chances
would be better with a lone motorist and rode only a short distance
before getting out. Their next ride was with a 52-year-old machin-
ery salesman, William C, Spieth of Ashtabula. About a mile from
Cornersburg, Ohio, they ordered Spieth to stop the calp which he
did. When Froehner, who was sitting in the back seat, pulled a
