the city jail yard at Portsmouth,ak Virginia, at 10:29
this morning for the murder of Carrie Carrington, colored,
his mistress, some months ago. The murderer was awake
last night until 2 o'clock singing and praying. At that
hour he retired and slept soundly until 7 o'clock when he
was awakened by the death watch, At 8 o'clock a number
of his friends called on him and spent an hour in prayer
and songs. At 9:25 o'clock Foreman wasasked how he félt
and said: 'I am feeling: first rate. I have made my peace
with God and am a pure child, I know the road to heaven,!
He refused breakfast, saying he was not hungry and 'It is
no good to me,® At 10220 o'clock the condemned man was
taken to the scaffold. He walked steadily and erect,
without aid, When the reading of the death warrant was
completed, he was again asked if he had anything to say
