KINGSLEY, James EH,

Kingsley, a 25-year-old white man, had been arrested numerous times
at Gray Harbor and Seattle, Wash., during the period from 1922 to
1927. On July 11, 1928, he was sentenced to serve 18 months in the
Monroe, Washington, reformatory for automobile theft and was subse-
quently paroled. On Sept. 12, 1930, he was sentenfed to a Colorado
Reformatory for grand larceny but escaped the next month, On Jah,
2h, 1931, he was driving a stolen car through Ashland, Ore., when
he was stopped for quentioning by policeman Sam Prescott. Without
warning, he drew a pistol and fatally shot Prescott. Kingsley was
apprehended shortly afterwards, tried, convicted and sentenced to
die. His last words, spoken before being hanged at the Oregon State
Prison on Octe 30, 1931, were "I am ready to go."
