BRAZEE, George

Brazee, a 59-fear-old white farmer, lived with his former wife,
Anna Glem VanPatten, on her Elk Creek, Otsego Coo, Ne Ye, farm,
AEXEKS During the time that they had been married to each other,
they lived in Oneonta and, following a quarrel, Brazee shot her,
inflicting a scalp wound. For this, he was sentenced to a S-year
term in Auburn Prison and while he was imprisoned, she divorced
him and married a railroad man who was subsequently killed in an
accident, She used the proceeds of his insurance policies to pur-
chase the Elk Creek farm where she moved when she married: Mr, Van-~
Patten. VanPatten subsequently deserted her and she hired a young
man to help her with the farm. Brazee went there when he was re«
leased from prison and though he was not a particularly welcome
guest, he was allowed to stay. On Aug. 17, 1920, Brazee, Mrs. Van~
Patten and the hired man went into town, As they were returning
home, they got into an argument over the price that she had received
for some eggs. The next morning at breakfast, the argument resumed

and Brazee pulled a pistol and shot
