Garrison, a Coos So., Ores, white man, was accused of having killed

son originally confessed the crime and his confession, ithdich he had
subsequently repudiated, was the basis for his conviction at his
first trial, Befause this repudiated confession had been used, the
Supreme Court of Oregon ordered a new trial and he was convicted for
the second time and sentenced to hang. Garrison confinued to main-
ta in his innocence and the day before his execution issued a lengthy
statement in which he claimed that he had been convicted on perjured
testimony and through the connivance of a ring of Soos County pali-~
ticians and lawmen who were protect&ng the white slavery and illicit
whiskey racket in the county and he even went so far as to name one
of the lawmen who had traced the crime to him as the actual murderer

felt that Yarrison was insane and dangerous and that his accusations
were prompted by a desire for revenge. He was hanged at the Oregon
State Prison on Dec, 13, 1912.
