SANFORD, William 77 LARGE CARD

Sanford, a 20-year-old armed robber escaped from a Calif,
Youth Authority Camp an Mayl3, 19/8, with the avowed in-
tentiLon of killing his girl friend who had started going
with someone else. In June, he visited the boarding
house of widowed Mrs, Felipa Griffith in San Francisco
with the pretense of renting a room. Instead, he bludg-
eoned the elderly woman to death with a Stillson wrench
and robbed her. Traced by his fingerprints, he confessed
saying that he wanted money to buy a gun to kill his
former girlfriend and decided to rob Mrs. CaLtrath, He
died in San Quentin's gas chamber on July 15, 19h9,
