SLAVE EXECUTIONS IN MARYLAND 1786-1801.

"...We find mention of 13 negroes sentenced to death be~
tween 1786 and 1801. Of these, one slave was hung for
rape; five, of whom at least 3 were slaves, were trans-
ported for rape, arson and ather felonies; two slaves
convicted of murder were put to work on the roads for

50 years, and 2 others for 20 years for other felcenies;
and the death sentences of 3 slaves were commuted with-
