Barker, a @7-year-old White Webster Co., Nebr., farmer and his older
brother Dan were partners in their farming operation. Dan and his
wife, Alice, lived downstairs in the farm whouse while Frank, who

was unmarried, lived upstairs. Evidently for some time Frank Barker
had toyed with ACSXX48& the idea of killing his brother and obtaining
the entire farm himself. On the night of Feb. 1, 190), he came home
drunk and went into the bedroom where his brother and sister-in-law
were sleeping and shot both of them to death. He then went upstairs
and fell asleep in a drunken EXRS$ stupor. The next morning when

he awoke and realized what he had done, he took the bloody clothes,
bed linen and carpet and hid them under a stack of hay in the loft

of the stable. He then dug a shallow grave in ¥KSXEX frozen ground
of the stable and buried his brother and sister-in-law. He then
went around telling so many conflicting stories that the suspicions
of the neighbors were aroused and the farm searched. The bodies were
uncovered and “arker was jailed and charged with the double murder.
Convicted and sentenced to hang on Sept. 2, 190lj, his execution was
delayed until Jan. 17, 1908,-by a respite from the Governor and a
lengthily fought sanity trial. He met his death calmly and had a
