"RESPITEs NELSON, a Slave, who was to have been hung

last Friday, has been respited by Gov. DUDLEY, until the >
second Friday in January next. A large crowd assembled to
'see the SHOW, and, of course, went home disappointed. We
thought some of them seemed as sorrowful, as the little x&x
girl mentioned by DEAN SWIFT, whom, having met in the road
sobbing most bitterly, he asked her the cause of her trou-
ble. 'Why,' said she, 'T have walked seven miles to see

a man hung, and they've pardoned him." REGISTER, Raleigh,

North Carolina, November 9, 1839 (3:3)
