SOLOMON SUTLER April 14, 1916
Negro, aged 18. Hanged at Westminster, Maryland, for
for the murder of a 28 year old white farmer named
William F. Brown at Silver Run on New Year's Day, 1916.
Sutler had been a hired hand on the victim's farm for
two years. He resented having to get up early in the
morning to do the farm work. So he bashed Mr. Brown's
head in with a rock, dumped his body in the woods and
stole his money besides. A mob tore away the wooden
enclosure that had been erected around the gallows.
