Anthony ("Tone't) Collins, black, hanged, Reidsville,
fatnall County, Georgia, on May 16, 1879, for the murder
of an infant. The gallows were erected 3/) of a mile
from Reidsville and the exectuion was witnessed by be~
tween two and three thousand persons, Driven to the
scaffold on a wagon, seated on his coffin and guarded

by 12 men, An immense crowd followed, Mounted gallows
with "alacrity" and made a rambling speech in a voice so
low that it was bare audible,
