Hitchfock, a white man, was a singing school teacher who lived in
what was called "the Center," Madison Cosy Ne Ye He fell in love
publicly hanged on a gallows constructed east of the viblage of
Cazenovia on Sept. 11, 1807, “hile standing on the scaffold, he re-
quested that KXE the hymn "Show BX¥§XK Pity, Lord} O Lord Forgive
be sang in his favorite tune, "Brookfield." After this was done,

Hitchfock, a white man, was a singing school teacher who lived in
what was called "the Center," Madison Coe, Ne Ye He fell in love
with one of his pupils, Lois Andrus, and decided to kill his wife
in order that he might court the young lady. farly in April, 1807,
there was a great snow storm and the residents of the area, Hitch-
cock included, met on April 6 to clear the village between/lthe Cen-
ter" and # the Corner" (Madison Village), After they had completed
their work, Hitchcock went to the drug store at "the Corner" and
purchased some arsenic which he administered to his wife that night
and she died shortly afterwards in agony. Hitchcock was arrested
and on July he was tried, convicted and Sentenced to die, He was
