WALKER, Norman E,

Walker, a 32-year-old white man, had served honorably in the U, S.
Navy during World War II, After he suffered a head injury ina shell
burst at Xa Iwo Jima in 195, he underwent psychological changes and’
was dishonorably discharged, He returned to Ohio and settled in
Céeveland where he became a narcotics addict and he was finally sen=
tenced to the Ohio State Prison after he robbed a nurse of some nar=
cotics at knifepoint, Walker served seven years in prison before he
was released on parole in March, 1956, Early on the morning of July
8, 1956, he abducted a former girlfriend (Mrs, Rose Ststarsic) from
her home in Independence, Cuyahoga Co., and forced her to accompany
him to a point just off Brookside Road near Riverview Road, When he
noticed a police patrol car containing Patrolmen Garner N, Robertson,
Jv. and Walter Gabram approaching, he ordered the woman to lie on
the floorboard of KMMXXMEMMM his automobile, When Robertson approache
his car, he fired a shotgun blast through his chest, killing him ine
stantly, As Gabram emptied his revolver through the car's windshield,
Walker managed to escape and fled into the darkness, Policementof

a five square mile area was sealed off, Finally he was trailed by

bloodhounds to 7701 Fitzwater Road where he surrendered without re»
