He was tried at the February term of the Circuit Court,
in 1882, end sentenced to death, the day of execuing be-
ing set for March l/th of that vear, Prenarations were
made for the hanging, and Turner was just in the act of
going from his‘cell to the scaffold, when a telegram was
received from Governor Blackburn granting a stay of exe-
cution for thirty days. Atkthe expiration of his thirty
days the judgment of the cotrt was carried out and he
