Long was 17 years old when he was sentenced to the Oregon
State Penitentiary forarmed robbery in 1943, When he was
released in 1951, FBI Agents followed his every move hoping
that he would lead them to a prison buddy who was on their
Most Wanted" list. The day after his release, he forced
Walter L. Rucker at gunpoint to drive from Pontland to

a deserted area outside of Hstacada, Ore., where he shot
Rucker and stole his pickup truck. The FBI had lost their
grail and were unable to save Rucker's life. The next day,
long attempted to rob a bank in Portland and the Agents were
waiting for him outside. In a gunfight, Long and Agent
Leonard Frank ware wounded. Long died in Oregon's gas cham-
ber for the murder of Rucker on August $, 1952,
