Michaud, a French-Canddian, and his wife Julia lived in Tacoma, Wash,

Paddock hospital, grazing her forehead and inflicting a scar which she
bore until her death, Arrested for the assault, he was sent to the
Washington State Prison at Walla Walla for four years during which she

with their 13-year-old daughter, When Michaud entered with a pistol,
she ran out of the back door acreaming and he followed, firing the
pistol. One of the bullets struck her in the back as she was going
through the front gate to the street and she fell to her knees, begging
for mercye Michaud placed the pistol next to her side and fired again,
inflicting a fatal wound, He then placed the mzzle of the weapon in
his own mouth and pulled the trigger but all of the bullets had alrea-
dy been fired, He seemed indifferent at his trial and when he was
sentenced to die, his only remark was to a jailer: "I was afraid the
