BUEL, Myron A.

Buel, a white man born on Sept, 12, 1957, was employed as.a laborer
on the farm of William C, Richards, Supervisor of Plainfield,..0tse-.
go Coo, No XY. He became enamoured of Richards' 15-year-old-.daugh-
ter, Catherine Mary, but the girl not miu only resisted his advances
but threatened to tell her parents if hey persisted. On June 25,
1878, Miss Richards was AXSHSXINKERAXRSE at home with a seamstress,
the other members of the family being in town, When she went cut to
the barn to play with some kittens, Buel saw her and left the field
where he was working with another hired man on the pretext of chang-
ing boots. Instead he went to the barn where he once again made
advances to the girl, “hen she refused him and threatened again to
inform her parents, he choked her to death with a strip of leather
and then raped her body. before he returned to the feild, he in-
flicted some bruises on the head and shoulders of the body and
placed it in a bull pen, turning the bull aloose, When the body was
discovered that afternoon, it was assumed to begin with that she

had been killed by the bull. However, an examination revealed that
she had been strangled and assaulted and when the other hired man
