out of ‘school in the third grade and as a young boy he was sent to
the Cheltenham Reformatory, After serving a fifteen year sentence
for robbery in the Maryland State Penitentiary, he was released
shortly before he committed the crime for which he was subsequently
ex8cuted, On the night of January 16, 195, he had been drinking
heavily, Shortly after midnight on the morning of January 17, he
entered the small store and dwelling owned by an elderly and frail
white woman, Miss Della Honeyman, through a rear window, He was in
the process of taking some money from a cash drawer in the store
portion of the building when Miss Honeyman entered from her Sleeping
quarters in the rear, They tusseled and when he felt a bag susp end=
ed between her breasts, he ripped it from her and threw her to the
floor where he beat her head against the floor until she was uncon-
scious and then he raped her, holding his hands over her mouth to
prevent any outcry, He then choked her to death and went to the
home of his mother where he was living. Mrs, Honeyman's body was
found the next day and Thomas was taken into custody three weeks
later, traced by a series of bills of large denominations, part of
