ifOn May 3, 1738, Katherine Garret was hanged on Town Hill
/ for the mrder of her infant. She had committed the mur-
der in Saybrook, six months earlier, but brought to New
London for confinement in the vaol and the execution was
ordered to be here, too, Katherine was called Indian Kate
being a Peouot of the North Stonington Reservation, and
only 27-years-old. ‘She had been brought up in Saybrook
