and his 19-year-old wife of three years, Stella, had been living in
Salem, Ore., for several months, Even though Timmons drank 3 he was

because of this and the disparity in their ages, his life with his
wife was one of constant quarrels,: She complained to the neighbors
that he abused her’ and accused her of Seeing other men, On the af-
ternoon of Oct. 21, 1908, they visited a Salem attonney together and
Mrs, Simmons expressed her desire of ‘securing @ divorce. Timmons
told the lawyer that though he loved his wife » he was willing to have
her divarce him if that was what she wished, As the hour was late,
the attorney told them to come back the next day and they left,
Shortly after midnight that night, Timmons returned home and they

edge of an ax and then cut her throat from ear to ear with a razor,
