"On June 12, 1860, Marcus Gredler killed Jacob Roeder
with whom he had traveled from Leavenworth, Kansas, He
killed him by cutting off his head with an axe in a camp
in the foothills. Gredler was captured and tried in Den=
ver by a People's Court, He was found guilty and hung
from a scaffold on June 15, 1860. Reportedly thecrowd
of spectators at the hanging was between 3,000 and 1,000
