PRITTS, Henry

Pritts, a white man, lived in Milford township, Somerset Co., Pa. He
was enamored of the wife of a friend, Eli Weimer, and && late in Oct-
ober, 1659, the two men went on a hunting trip, believed to have been
at Pritts' suggestion, on the Negro Mountain, REXEREXES Only Weimer
was bearing a gun and Pritts returned lone late that afternoon, ex-
plainang that he and Weimer had separated when the latter decided to
travel a different route, A Searching party, with Pritts a member ,
went out the next day but found no trace of the missing man, The
searches continued for over a week and finally Weimer's body was
found. He had been shot with his ow bun and the body had been
arranged with the weapon in a manner to make it appear that Weimer ha
committed suicide. Pritts had been Suspected of having murdered Wei-
mer from the beginning and when it was shown that the dead man could
not possibly have inflicted the wound himself, he was arrested and
charged with the mrder, He protested his innocence through his
trial where he was convicted and sentenced to die, but prior to his
execution he admitted that he had killed Weimer in the hope that he

would ultimately be able to marry Mrs. Weimer. He was hanged apo
the County Jail at Somerset on June 22, 1860, On
