PORTER, George

Porter, a poor white man, lived in Wood Coe, Ohio, where he eked out
a living by doing odd jobs for residents of the various hamlets along
the banks of the Maumee River. One of those for whom he had worked,

appeared on the dockets of the County Court. Richardson refused to
pay Porter for several Jobs that the handyman had perfromed and, af-
ter brooking over the injustice for some time, Porter went to the
Richardson home on the south Side of the river from vaterville, then
in Wood Coes and entered the dogtrot between the house where Richard~
Son, holding his grand daughter, was Sitting in the shade talking
with a neighbor, Porter shot and killed “ichardson but the child
and neighbor were unhurt, Porter fled but Surrendered voluntarily
three days later and was tried, convicted and Sentenced to die, He
