Palmer, a 32-year-old white cook and his 28-year-old wife, Jessie
Sweet Palmer, moved from Casper, Wyoes; to Salt Creek where they both
obtained RSSMEXEH a room-and employment at the Salt Creek Hotel. Pale
mer served as the cook for the Hotel's restaurant while his wife was
employed a& a waitress. Palmer was insanely jealous, and for three
weeks they quarreled incessantly. In the course of an unuaually vio-
lent argument on the night of Jan. 8, 1915, Mrs. Palmer removed her
rings and returned them and other je@elry that he had given her and
returned—them.to_him, statimg that she was leaving. He slashed her
throat with a straight razor, killing her ihstantly and then cub his
own throat with the same weapone Rushed to a KKK hospital in Casper,
Palmer survived to stand trial for killing his wife and he was con=
victed of murder and sentenced to hange When he was taken to his
cell following the sentencing, he cut his thppat once again with a
piece of safety razor which he had hidden but other prisoners gave

the alarm and his life was again saved. The night before he was
hanged at the Wyoming State Prison on Auge 11, 1916, he cut his wrists
with a piece’ of button, but his life was saved for a third time and
