Peare, Hm an‘’aged white mountaineer living near Coquille, Ore., had
a still with which he manufactured his own whiskey. During a drunken
spree with his wife and a neighbor, J@mes Culver, he learned that his
wife had been committing adultery with Culver and he killed both of
them in a rage. Uonvicted and sentenced to hang, he renounced re-
ligion prior to his execution and sta ted that he “wanted to face
it alone." He did issue a statement in which he expressed regret
at having killed his wife but stated that he was glad that he had
killed Gulver as it was all his faulte He was hanged on May 22,
